Lawrence North High School Natatorium Additions and Renovations

A new 25m competition natatorium addition that also included locker rooms and grand connecting corridor to the completion gymnasium. The pool was designed with movable bulkhead to accommodate necessary instructional use and have the ability to host large invitational meets.

Features

The HVAC systems for the pool area were specifically designed to maintain three optimal environments simultaneously. The first system maintained the optimal air environment 12” off the water for the swimmers. The second system maintained optimal environment for the swimmers out of water on the deck. The last system maintained optimal and comfortable environment for the spectators in the stands above the pool.

The old pool was filled in and completely renovated into a state of the art weight room and three instructional classrooms with theater seating.

Challenges

Sequencing of the combination precast and structural steel structure with the excavation of pool to enforce a compressed construction schedule. Relevancy

The work was performed in phases over two summers with close supervision and tracking, with completion a big success, on time, and within the budget.
